Create a one-page, infographic to demonstrate your personal leadership credo. it is about your leadership philosophy.

Read then write

This activity gives you the opportunity to consider your leadership style, values, attitudes, behaviors, and norms that will guide how you will lead others and how you will lead intentionally—strategically. Morrie seemed to grasp the notion that his leadership was of value to others, even in his final days. What do you think they said about him in the eulogy? Likely, they spoke of legacy. For this activity, you will consider your leadership legacy and guiding principles.

You will create a one-page, infographic to demonstrate your personal leadership credo. it is about your leadership philosophy. You can use technology such as Canva, PPT, or Word to create a one-page expression of your learning. Creating our own patterns helps us to learn. This one-pager connects to both the verbal and visual learning styles, to what you’ve read and experienced from the Mitch Album reading, Tuesdays with Morrie. Again, you’ll have the opportunity to connect words, images, and personal values. In short, this one-pager becomes a metaphor for the learning you’ve done.

Your one-page, illustration should:

  • Highlight at least three personal values that will guide your leadership. (Values statements)
  • Make a personal statement about what you’ve read, viewed, or experienced as you’ve interacted with the reading. (Morrie Take away)
  • Discuss at least two operating norms that will guide your leadership. (What behaviors will be observable from your leadership? Think about styles and the characteristics we discussed of those top ten.)
  • Be creative and engaging.

You can work in pairs, or on your own. At the end of the semester there will be 4 days to read the book to the class, present the illustrations, and then have a short conversation with us about what lead you to create this story in the first place. The presentation needed the writer to Look for central themes that emerge from the transcripts and group them into common categories. Work the data, organize it, synthesize it, search for patterns, break it into manageable units, and decide what is important. You should be able to develop at least 3 or 4 categories as themes emerge from the data. Some themes may emerge early on.

Hint: Leadership influence on student motivation can be negative as well as positive.

The assigned transcripts include 20 student interviews (Transcripts #1-20) and 4 instructor interviews (Transcripts #21-24).

Research Question.

The central research question is: How does education leadership motivate students to put forth the required study, practice, or rehearsal required to learn effectively?

Based on the findings of the literature review, this central question is broken down into 3 topical sub-question areas:

  1. ) What kind of educational environment is most conducive to student learning?
  2. ) What type of instructor characteristics and behaviors are conducive to student learning?
  3. ) How does the perceived “power type” of a leader influence student desire to learn? (“Power type” is based on French and Raven’s five power types).

The transcripts are made up of standardized, open-ended questions, with each topical area containing several specific questions.

Assignment.

Choose one topical sub-question area (e.g. environment, instructor characteristics and behaviors, or perceived “power type,”) and study only that particular area in each transcript. (This means that you will be reading approximately 1/3 of each transcript).
