This is where you will submit the revised version of your research paper.
Task: Write a research paper using evidence to support a thesis that addresses your research question examining a current issue or event in the news from the perspective of your field of study. The audience is people who are generally educated but do not have extensive knowledge of your field.
Length: At least 2000 words
Sources: Minimum of 6. At least 3 of these must be from scholarly journals, and all sources should be selected based on reliability, currency, and level of information/analysis. The UMUC library will be very useful in helping you find appropriate sources. You can, but do not have to, include all of the sources from your annotated bibliography.
Due date and grading: The revised research paper is due by the end of Week 7. It will be graded using a rubric and will count for 30% of your course grade. To view the grading rubric, please view the assignment through the Assignments area of the classroom.

Topic
This paper is the culmination of your research project, in which you are examining a current issue or event in the news from the perspective of your field of study. Before drafting your paper, you will have chosen a topic, developed a research question, and identified several potential sources in an annotated bibliography. You should write on the same topic for this paper, unless your professor has asked you to make changes to your topic.
Organizing and supporting your paper
As you write your paper, be sure to include the following:
an engaging introductory paragraph that includes an effective and clear thesis statement
any definition of terms or background information that your reader is likely to need to understand your paper
unified, supported, and coherent body paragraphs that defend the thesis
an effective conclusion
Research is a key element of this paper. Take care to support your claims with research throughout the paper. Include APA in-text citations whenever you use sources, whether through quote, paraphrase, or summary. An APA reference list at the end of the paper should list all of the sources cited in the text of the paper.
Point of view
This paper will be written in an academic style. Use third person point of view. Do not use “I” or “you.”
Formatting your assignment
Incorporate these elements of APA style:
Use one-inch margins.
Double space.
Use an easy-to-read font between 10-point and 12-point.

Your paper should address the following requirements:

Unit 1 Lesson 2 Case Study Discussion: You have learned about the concepts of participant observation and cultural relativism, which basically sets the rules for cultural anthropologists working in other cultures. As you can see from the case study and the example of Yir Yoront, doing participant observation can be very complicated, ethically, and the stakes can be very high. Anthropologists in the field tread a thin line. Sometimes small, seemingly harmless, decisions can have major effects and it is not always clear what the right choice is to make in order to avoid harming people or causing unsolicited change. This case study example is a commonly used one dealing with ethics in anthropology, and the full story, with a little less drama, can be found out on the web. Typically ,the question is what you would have done in this situation if you were the cultural anthropologist. The discussion follows about which was ethically correct: to help the woman or to not help the woman. After you wrote what you think the right thing to do is then you see some responses that other anthropologists made. Answer this question and discuss it by creating your own post and also responding to at least one other student’s post or reply. Be careful and consider all the information this person had and try really hard to think like an impartial observer. Don’t let your own culture cloud your vision. There are several aspects of this story that are more subtle and you have to consider not just the big picture of what will happen in the village and to your study if you help her or not, but you also have to consider all the angles of the situation to determine if you should help her or not on moral grounds. Taking her means you could be saving her from an abusive husband; on the other hand, you could be breaking up a normal family in the village. The first question before you make up your mind how to answer might be why do you think this woman chose to come to the anthropologist who she barely knew for help in the first place when there was a bus that she could so easily have escaped on? You might also want to consider what it says that the woman left with only one of her children? Be suspicious of all the players’ motives and then answer the question: What would you do if you were the anthropologist in this situation?
